DIY : Make Yourself This Fashionable Glow Skirt to Light Up Your Holiday Parties

It’s the holiday season, and you know what that means: parties. No matter what religion you do or don’t practice, it’s inevitable that you’ll be obligated to attend a festive party or two. And if you’re going to be coerced into going to a holiday party, you might as well do it in style! Thanks to Natalina’s Holiday Glow Skirt tutorial, you can make yourself the brightest belle at the ball.

Natalina originally intended to use this skirt as an excuse to experiment with Adafruit’s fancy new NeoPixel LED Side Light Strips, but had some trouble getting them to play nicely with her Arduino. Instead, she ended up using RGB fairy lights, which are diffused through a tutu and white overskirt. She used opaque black fabric to divide the skirt into sections, which gives the skirt a trendy panel look.

To make your own, you’ll need access to a sewing machine and other basic sewing tools. You will, of course, need the tutu and fabric for the rest of the skirt, along with a set of battery-powered fairy lights. Natalina has provided a pattern for the skirt, but you may need to tweak it to fit your size. With that pattern in hand, you can follow Natalina’s comprehensive instructions to cut and sew the fabric and attach the lights. The result is a pretty glowing skirt that is sure to impress all of your coworkers at the office holiday party.
