DIY : Fixing Broken Fishing Rod Tip – Lane Katris – Medium

Sometimes your rod tip breaks and you don’t feel like buying another. Here is what it looked like when I was out and about and wanted to continue fishing:

Hack fix to continue fishing

Not the best but I could still cast — not very far though.

When I got home I did a real basic fix. This mainly worked because it broke off so closely to the tip, the rod was still fairly skinny to fit into the eyelet.

Supplies

  1. 2x Pliers
  2. Lighter
  3. Toothpick
  4. Glue you can melt or fishing rod glue
  5. Something to hold the fishing rod still

Steps

Use a lighter to heat the eyelet and work the rod and eyelet back and forth until the rod backs out. Just try to rip it out without bending the metal much.

I had to clean adhesive off with dish liquid and a sponge and used the toothpick to clean out the eyelet. Heat up glue with a lighter and apply lightly. Push the eyelet on as hard as possible. The last image is how I held the rod still.

And that’s it! This video by “The Handmade Fisherman” is really good:
